European Photo Workshops, Inc. offers travel and study-abroad opportunities for all those interested in photography, be it film based or digital image making. Currently workshops are offered in Italy and France. All of the workshops are led by photographers who are familiar with the European geography in which the workshops occur and are also experts in their chosen genres of the medium. Each workshop is limited to 12 participants. The workshops present in-depth study of not only photography, but also the history and culture of each participant’s chosen destination. These are relaxed-paced workshops that are about learning to “see” in spectacular geographic regions. Everyday we will go into the field to make photographs and every evening we will view work made the previous day in order to discuss photographic methods and address problems encountered while working in new environments.

Tuscany Photographic Workshops

Accommodations: We will stay in a 16 th century Italian Villa in the countryside north of Florence. It is both a family home and an Inn. Rooms are double occupancy with modern bathrooms. Single participants can choose to have their own room for an additional charge or have a roommate for the week. The grounds of the Villa include a formal garden, olive orchard, small vineyard and a forest with hiking trails. In Rome we will stay in a centrally located hotel, close to the sites and Termini Train Station. While in Venice we will stay in a former 14 th century palace on a small canal near the Piazza San Marco.

Meals: Of course a trip to Tuscany wouldn’t be authentic without plenty of exquisite meals. Five evenings while staying in the Tuscan hills, we will return to the Villa to enjoy a homemade meal served family style in our own dining room. We will sample the local wines and cheeses as well as feasting on typical Tuscan cuisine consisting of fresh pasta, hearty soups, meats and vegetables. Breakfast is buffet style with choices of cereal, yogurt, fresh bread, soft-boiled eggs, juice, milk and coffee. When we’re out in the cities and countryside photographing, we will encounter many opportunities to taste delicious lunches at quality restaurants known to the locals.

Transportation: The Villa is close to highways and the train station and we will take advantage of both to get a taste of Tuscan living. Most often we will travel by mini-van to visit the more remote hill towns, but we will also ride the train to Florence and Lucca.

Photography in France

Workshops in France provide the participant many locations in which to absorb the history and culture of the region while engaging in image making opportunities.

Accommodations: We begin with a 2-night stay in Paris, the City of Light, followed by train travel to southwest France and a 5-night stay in a village chateau. The workshop concludes with a 4-night stay in a private 18 th century manor house located north of Paris, near one of the largest natural forests in Western Europe. The hotel in Paris is located near the Eiffel Tower, within walking distance of the Musee D’Orsay, is close to many well-known restaurants, metro stations and bus stops thus granting easy well-rounded access to the city. Rooms are double occupancy with modern bathrooms. Single rooms are available at this location for an additional charge. The chateau and manor houses offer architectural details and furnishings dating from their origins. Both provide unique photographic opportunities.

Meals: Nine breakfasts and six dinners are included in France. We will enjoy specialties from each of the regions we visit. These include cheeses and wines as well as savory gourmet dishes and desserts.

Transportation: We will rely on trains for transportation from Paris to outlying destinations in France. While at the chateau and manor house we will have the use of private vans to travel from village to village.
